Rushen Primary School

Learning and Growing

As a school, we have made the decision to move away from teaching cursive entry and exit strokes in Key Stage 1.

Children who are already using our previous Letter-join style, are welcome to continue doing so. Our main focus is on developing clear, correctly formed and legible handwriting that children can use confidently and consistently across the curriculum.

If your child would like to continue practising Letter-join at home, they can access the online interactive website. Instructions on how to log in can be found below.

Children will continue to learn some joins in Year 2 and will continue to be taught and modelled joined handwriting as they move through Key Stage 2 as part of our updated handwriting approach. However, we recognise that handwriting develops differently for each child, and there is no expectation for all children to use joined handwriting. Our priority is that children develop a clear, fluent and legible handwriting style that they can use confidently and consistently across the curriculum.

Our new printed handwriting style can be found below.
