Rushen Primary School

Learning and Growing

Our school is proud to be working alongside Emma Lewry to implement the C.O.O.L. Curriculum framework. C.O.O.L. stands for "Choosing Our Own Learning" and encourages children to take an active role in their learning through exploration, collaboration and meaningful choice. We first introduced the C.O.O.L. approach within Key Stage 1 in 2025, where it had a positive impact on children's engagement, independence and enthusiasm for learning. Building on this success, we are now extending the framework into Key Stage 2 and using it across our foundation subjects. This approach provides children with rich, purposeful and creative learning opportunities while encouraging them to develop their curiosity, make meaningful connections in their learning and take increasing ownership of their ideas and learning experiences.
